Did better than our RaMarine Chart Plotter on our last Cruise!
Tested this program on my iPad2 with 3G gps option and this program far out shined the expensive, Ray Marine C90w plotter I have on the boat. The iPad never lost GPS signal and always had fantastic chart views showing. The Ray Marine lost signal several time and even though I was using the Navonics charts of the Bahamas in both devices the iNavX display was consistently better. When it comes to laying in and plotting a course, the iNavx/iPad2 interface beat the chart plotter by factors of 100 fold! A medium complicated route with 15 waypoints took only about 3 min. to plot on iNavx. The same route on the ray marine took over 20 min. and I was still not happy with the text name and some other things but finally said good enough. My only minor complaint is that the track log function ran out of space on a 8 day cruise and started wiping out the earliest track points. It does not have any adjustment for how often it records a point and no way to edit or delete points to thin the track out to make more room. I have the Xtraverse web connection set up so I had to stop saving the track and up load it to Xtraverse and then start a new one, and now I have to do some surgery with MacENC to join the two.
All in all a great program and a fine back up for a dedicated chart plotter. If my water proof plastic bag had a way to get power to the iPad I would make in my primary and let the raymarine be the back up. Not bad for a $750 investment (iPad + iNavx) vs the $2,500 plotter!
