iNavX: Marine Navigation App Reviews

Hope for improvement

I am using iNavx for years. From the poor choices, it is the best boating navigation app, which I know. However, compared to my navigation apps in aviation, car driving, biking, hiking, running the quality is very poor: (1) the acquisition of maps is extremely bad; (2) there is no good way of switching between planning and navigating mode; (3) the menu structure as a whole does not make sense; there is a lot more... - I do hope that either iNavx or its competition solve the main issues soon

Overall Pretty Reliable

I will never buy another marine navigation app. iNavX has proven to be just as accurate as any instruments we have in the wheel house while offshore so I would recommend it to anyone who works offshore. My only complaint is you cannot rotate the charts using your iPhone. The charts only rotate using the iPad. Add that one feature to the iPhone and it easily gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

Did better than our RaMarine Chart Plotter on our last Cruise!

Tested this program on my iPad2 with 3G gps option and this program far out shined the expensive, Ray Marine C90w plotter I have on the boat. The iPad never lost GPS signal and always had fantastic chart views showing. The Ray Marine lost signal several time and even though I was using the Navonics charts of the Bahamas in both devices the iNavX display was consistently better. When it comes to laying in and plotting a course, the iNavx/iPad2 interface beat the chart plotter by factors of 100 fold! A medium complicated route with 15 waypoints took only about 3 min. to plot on iNavx. The same route on the ray marine took over 20 min. and I was still not happy with the text name and some other things but finally said good enough. My only minor complaint is that the track log function ran out of space on a 8 day cruise and started wiping out the earliest track points. It does not have any adjustment for how often it records a point and no way to edit or delete points to thin the track out to make more room. I have the Xtraverse web connection set up so I had to stop saving the track and up load it to Xtraverse and then start a new one, and now I have to do some surgery with MacENC to join the two. All in all a great program and a fine back up for a dedicated chart plotter. If my water proof plastic bag had a way to get power to the iPad I would make in my primary and let the raymarine be the back up. Not bad for a $750 investment (iPad + iNavx) vs the $2,500 plotter!

Awesome app!

Together with ShipModuls WiFi multiplexer, I get GPS, AIS, Compass, and all of my ST60+ data on my iPad with iNavX. It works GREAT! the TidesXL integration is really helpful too! Great work guys! Keep it up! Regular software updates/improvements are also a big plus!!

A beta app by slobs

When I look at guide, I get a page of html! With no way to leave. Now I cant look at the chart! chart choices should last between invocations of the program. Why do I always have to choose a map? Should offer helmsman "road" display. All screens should Have an Back or exit icon. This is a beta app by slobs!

Room to improve

iNavX is my favorite nav app, but there are a few things that could make it better. Integrate Active Captain. Allow the measurement tool to be used across longer distances than is displayed on a single page - like the BlueCharts allows.

Great App

I bought INavX when I purchased a DigitalYacht IAIS unit in 2013. I used the app in conjunction with my onboard Raymarine chart plotter and radar and used this app for AIS information. I us editor the remainder of my cruise beginning in Mobile and along northern Gulf coast down to Indian Key, then returning to Kentucky Lake spring if 2014. It was very valuable tracking AIS targets and foe general navigation backup.

A pirates best friend

I live in Florida and need to take my boat 15 nautical miles to have it bottom painted. This app has allowed me to plot a course and stay on track! Suggestion: allow users to enter in the draft their boat demands and sound an alarm if they enter shallow water.

Master

Great app. for looking up places, distances, etc. around the planing table. The IPad app is better for use under way.

Great! Better than my $4,000 chart plotter!

Easier to use than the chart plotter. Just as accurate. Amazing.

THE WORST Nautical Navigation app Ive ever used...

This group should be embarrassed to be charging for this poorly constructed app. If you zoom into any of the charts, they provide next to zero detail for your entry points, waypoints, shallows. An absolute joke. -1 stars. I have used 3 other programs all of which are far superior in intuitiveness as well as function. INavX is a major fail and falls short of even the freeware apps Ive used in the past.

Dont buy!

Rubbish app. Expensive for nothing.

Best marine navigation app!

Been using for years and just getting around to leaving a review. Amazing chartplotter but even better integration with my AIS, GPS, etc. Love all the chart options. Nothing better! Cant say enough good things.

Best boating app ever!!

Would not go sailing with out it

THE best...bar none!

It simply could not be easier and it would be overkill to be more accurate. Have used iNavX from the Keys to Maine and find it consistently spot on.

App works great for us

Been using it for several years on an iPad in the USVI and BVI Always functions perfectly for us, after ensuring the correct charts are downloaded

Great App! Suggestions for Next Version

We have used this app throughout our cruising for over three years. Love it! Please consider adding the functionality to merge individual routes to create a total trip route. Thanks!

Great App

I love the app. I have used it all over the Caribbean as a backup to my main navigation system.

Capt.

This is a great app. Its easy to use and it works.

Cop Out Jerz
